WIP: Wedding Gift Blanket

Hi all! Angela here, blogging while Lindsey is out of town for the weekend!

So, the world of proper, traditional weddings is pretty foreign to me. I’m just now experiencing the first batch of friends from high school and college getting hitched, and so far all the celebrations have been pretty low key. There is a couple though who are getting married in September in full New England royalty fashion, and as such, I feel like my gift to them has gotta be good. So I panicked for a minute realizing that the only thing at Williams-Sonoma that I can afford is a soap dish, but then remembered “HEY I can knit!!”

Thus the wedding-gift blanket idea was born. I love the basic Pendleton blanket- classic, cool, and totally appropriate for a gift. I also love the Purl Bee’s Eleventh Hour Blanket, and Pickles.no’s Easy Blanket- so why not combine the them all? Both of the patterns seemed a bit too small for the blanket I was envisioning, so I modified the number of stitches cast on, and drafted a pattern for the Pendleton inspired striping.

Both the patterns call for US 36 needles (which are HUGE and I LOVE!) and super bulky yarn- I chose to use a grand total of 12 strands of white alpaca and wool/nylon (two 6 strand cones wound up on the machine, then hand wound together off the cones into a ball – whew!) for my main color, and 12 strands of green alpaca and rayon for my accent color #1. For the second accent color I’m planning to use 5 strands of our bright blue brown sheep wool.

This is what progress is looking like so far:

super fast, fun, and squishy to knit so far!

BIG needles and BIG yarn!

Its been so many years since I last had knitting needles on a project and I never think about knitting since I learned to crochet but Oh My Stars when I saw those chunky needles and that plump yummy yarn – Must admit my heart did skip a beat and then begin to race a moment…… Looking forward to your TaDa moment!!!!
